Hey Folks, We Screwed Up

Earlier this week, PetaPixel made an egregious mistake: we unintentionally showed an embargoed Sony product in a video review of a separate product. We then accidentally published the video review for that embargoed product hours before the embargo lifted. Neither was intentional or done with malice. That said, we know it harms our peers, so we want to explain what happened.

Kentmere Pan 200 Review: Your New Daily Driver Film

Being a film photographer is an expensive hobby. Sure, it's easy to get started with the relatively low cost of hardware but film and developing costs (even if you're doing it yourself) add up fast. That's why Kentmere Pan 200 is so welcome: it's good, it's readily available, and it's cheap at $8 per roll.

The SD Card Turns 25 Years Old

The SD Association (SDA) is getting out the candles and celebrating the SD card's 25th birthday. Calling it "the world's favorite memory card," the SD is now old enough to rent a car in the United States.

Those Rumored Sony Price Increases Appear To Be Real

Last week, an un-cited report alleged that Sony was about to initiate price increases across a range of its photo products, including accessories, compact cameras, and lenses. The supposed increases varied between 10% and 35%, but Sony declined to comment on the veracity of the report.

DJI Goofed, Got Mavic 4 Pro Canadian and US Pricing Mixed Up at Launch

Earlier this week, DJI announced its new Mavic 4 Pro, a professional-level drone that, while largely an iterative update over the 3 Pro, is easily the best in its class. However, turbulent economic and market conditions made for a rocky launch -- and that included sending incorrect pricing information to the media.

OWC Envoy Ultra SSD Review: Faster, Cheaper, and Just Plain Better

SSDs continue to get faster, but the bottleneck for performance usually comes down to connectivity. It doesn't matter how fast your drive can write if the cable can't push data through to match. With Thunderbolt 5, though, that throughput has been jacked up, and OWC's new Envoy Ultra SSD shows that for those who need pure speed, there is an option.

The DJI Mavic 4 Pro Won’t Be Sold in the US at Launch

DJI today announced the Mavic 4 Pro, a major update to the extremely popular series of pro-level drones which saw the 3 Pro launched in 2023. The Mavic series remains one of the best options for traveling professional photographers and filmmakers, but DJI's latest won't be available in the United States -- at least not at launch.
